Ryan Wayne and the Oreh Repus #2

Ryan Wayne and the Oreh Repus #2: Lucifer’s Lair
Chapter 1: Loy

I slung my bag over my shoulder and waved bye to Jake. He was my new best friend. After…Lucas. Long story. Anyway, I shut my locker and hopped down the stairs. I started off home. After walking about ten yards away from the school, I recognized a familiar brick wall. I remembered last year when I had gone through that and experienced...a lot. As I thought about all that had happened before, a familiar, blinding orange light appeared on the brick wall. I dropped my backpack and looked at the light. In the center of the light was an opening which I somehow knew led to the world of the Oreh Repus. I quickly entered because I knew that the light wouldn’t just randomly appear there if there was no reason for me to enter the world.

I knew that the last time I’d been there, the whole world had been deactivated (long story), so the whole world was empty. But let me just say that now, the world definitely looked like what I had not expected or imagined. The ground had that same orange glow, but wasn’t so bright that you couldn’t make out it was orange. The sky was a nice, clean, shiny blue that had a very faint glow, which wasn’t as bright as the ground. There were small little bright houses and people… or creatures that were probably the Oreh Repus. I had actually never seen an actual Oreh Repus anywhere because last time I’d been here, there was no life at all. The Oreh Repus pretty much had the body of a human, but their skin had all kinds of textures and patterns. Their houses kind of formed a large circle, and there were a few houses in the center. All over the circle, the Oreh Repus were practicing their powers. The little ones seemed to be watching their parents play around with their powers. I looked off to the side of everyone smiling and laughing, and saw a darker area. I guessed that was kind of like the bad part of town around here. Before I could notice the rest of what was going on, I saw all the Oreh Repus start to gasp and look at me. My face went red and I looked at myself to see if there was something wrong with me. A tall, fit man with a trimmed brown beard approached me before I asked the Oreh Repus what was wrong with me.
“Ryan,” he said, in a smooth, calm voice.
He looked very familiar and made me feel something familiar but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I guess I looked confused or uncomfortable because he said, “Oh, let me introduce myself. I’m Loy, Ovilock’s son.”
That made much more sense. Loy gave me the same feeling Ovilock did. Behind his brown, neatly trimmed beard, and short, brown hair, you could see the resemblance. But his voice and build was nothing like Ovilock’s for sure. He had a smooth and strong voice and was much more stronger-looking than Ovilock.
“Ryan, my father has told me much about you.” he smiled. “Don’t feel confused. I understand that what you see is confusing, but I can catch you up.” Loy said. “So let me start of by telling you a little bit about this place.” We started walking as Loy spoke. “Ryan, this is where all the Oreh Repus live. This world in which we live is called the Orepus- a combination of Oreh and Repus, as my father must have told you previously.”
The name of the world was actually new information, but I didn’t want to interrupt. I just wanted to get on to the part where he tells me why I was meant to be here now.
“As you can see, the houses are divided by which one of the five powers the Oreh Repus has,” Loy continued. “The blue houses, over there,” he pointed. “are for the people with water powers. The red ones for fire Oreh Repus,” He paused and smiled since I had fire powers. He continued, “black for those who can change form, grey for wind powers, and green for earth powers.” Loy paused and thought for a moment. “That should be all that you didn’t know. Any questions?”
At first, I was hesitant to ask, but I just went ahead and said, “What about that dark area over there?” I pointed to the darker area I’d seen earlier.
“Ryan, this land is filled with all kind of different places, and that is...a place I’d like to discuss later.”
‘Probably shouldn’t bring that up again,’ I thought.
“That it?” Loy asked.
“Um...no. I was wondering why I was called here immediately.”
“Was hoping you’d ask,” he muttered sarcastically. “Ryan, there is another quest for you,” Loy paused. “You see, my father...his memory has been stolen.” Loy said. “Lucifer, as you know very well, has stolen Ovilock’s memory. He is planning to put my father’s memory and thoughts into his own mind, which will give him too much information about the Oreh Repus. And if my father’s memory is gone for too long, he will very well die.” Loy looked down for a second. “Ryan, you must retrieve my dad’s memory before he dies and before Lucifer takes it.” For Loy’s confident look and personality, he was pretty hesitant in telling me all this. “Ryan, you leave for the quest tomorrow morning.”
Loy showed me over to the center of all the houses, where I would stay for the night. That night I thought about all the things Loy had told me, really word for word. The way he hesitated didn’t seem right, even though he had been talking about his father losing his memory.
Chapter 2: The Lair

I woke up fresh in the morning and Loy sent me off.
“Ryan, remember that you will be fighting Lucifer again and that a lot of surprising things could happen…” Loy was hesitating again. “But Ryan, good luck,” he said, pat my back, and let me into Lucifer’s lair. I saw that same glowing orange light from last year and out came the prophecy:

On this quest, keep your sword in sight,
as all you’ll need to do is fight.
Ryan, you’ll learn much,
and a new villain will be within your touch.
You’ll doubt the thief,
and by the way, don’t eat the beef.

The beef part was kind of weird, but I didn’t have much time, so I just ignored it. I hadn’t got enough time to even look at the lair. It was actually just a black room. Black walls, black ceiling, black everything. But the walls and ceiling didn’t really look like they were painted black, they looked like they were infinite. Not that I wanted to run into them. I advanced with a sword of flames in my hand. (I forgot to tell you, I have fire powers) Before I could go further ahead, Lucifer’s familiar minions appeared. They were pretty much the same as the ones I’d encountered last year. But what I was afraid of was that they were just part of the first level of Lucifer’s lair. I’d struggled to beat them last year, so I wondered what could be ahead.
With my sword of flames, I wiped them out quickly with a bunch of slashing and stabbing. I advanced to the second part. So basically what happened was this tall black wall lifted up to open into the next part. What surprised me though, was what I saw in the next section.
Chapter 3: The Monster
So I guess what I expected was another group of those minions or something similar, but what I saw was what appeared to be a bigger minion. This one was at least ten feet tall. He had that same scaly skin, but on his chest was a giant black core. It was normal skin, but when I looked at it, I could feel it radiate power.
‘Boss level,’ I thought. ‘Lucifer decided to give me this guy already.’ I was scared at first, but out of all the things I could’ve learned last year, I learned that perseverance could beat almost anything.
I approached the monster, and muttered, ‘Let’s do this.’
But, by the first few seconds, I knew it would be tough to beat this guy. First of all, even the strongest stab I could give him with my sword still wouldn’t affect him. He seemed to have some kind of healing powers. I shoved my sword into his legs, and feet, and hands, and arms, but he never seemed to become the slightest bit tired or weak. I on the other hand, was extremely tired and injured, too. I had a giant gash through my leg, which the monster had simply done by running his talons down my leg. I dragged myself across the floor, so I could do something about the cut. Lucky for me, the monster kind of went to his corner, too. I blowed on the cut, and dabbed it with my shirt. Over in the monster’s corner, I noticed he was kind of moving his hands around, and one of his talons poked the black part in his chest. The monster gave out a loud scream. I plugged my ears and ducked down. Then I realized the monster’s weak spot was that black spot on his chest. I ran up as fast as I could with the gash in my leg, and threw my sword into his chest. He yelled out louder this time, and fell down. I smiled, proud of my thinking. One of the black faces lifted up, and opened up.

Chapter 4: Beef

In the next section, was something that was probably the very last thing I would imagine to be there. It was simply a black table with a plate of beef, my favorite food. At first I was a little suspicious because a plate of my favorite food wouldn’t just be there for me in this villain’s lair. But then again, I was really hungry. I had gotten really tired in the lair, and I would drool just by looking at plate. Mesmerized by the food, I slowly made my way up to the table. When I was less than a foot away, I realized what I was doing. And at that very moment, I remembered the prophecy. ‘And by the way, don’t eat the beef.’ I paused. Even though all I had been doing was getting close to eating a most likely poisoned food, I was breathing heavily. I paused, and calmed down.
After I had gotten hold of myself, I realized that there was almost no other way to get to the next section. I couldn’t eat the beef because the prophecy specifically told me not to. I tried shoving my sword into the ground, which didn’t work, but I wasn’t going to give up. I had a strong feeling that the next section was Lucifer himself. I punched the ground, stuck my sword into the walls, and did all I could, but nothing happened. I started to feel scared. I mean what if I got too late, and couldn’t save Ovilock? I mean, I would probably let everyone down, and… they’d hate me! That can’t happen. I took a deep breath and calmed down.
‘You’re not letting anyone down,’ I thought. ‘You’re going to do this; and save Ovilock.’
I started to feel really good. I was now standing straight up, with my sword by my side. And just after a few seconds, the door opened. ‘Hmmm,’ I thought. “Wonder what triggered that,” I muttered, but walked ahead, into the next section.

Chapter 5: Lucifer

As good as I had felt just a minute or so back, all of that disappeared in two seconds. The very first thing I saw after entering the next section was Lucifer, and… someone else. He seemed familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Lucifer sat on a throne above a short staircase. On his left was Ovilock, who was weak, pale, and almost dead. I gulped. This was probably the most scared I’d ever been, but I decided that it would be smart to use my brain at that point.
“Ahhhh, Ryan,” Lucifer said, as evil as ever.
‘The prophecy,’ I thought to myself. ‘...and a new villain will be within your touch,’ I remembered. “Ok, who’s the only person that is within my touch?” I muttered. ‘Loy!’ I thought. So the guy next to Lucifer was Loy. That’s why he had been acting so suspicious.
“Didn’t expect to see you here, Ryan,” Lucifer said, with a sly smile.
I didn’t know how I was supposed to reply, so I just stood there. But, I had a feeling that Lucifer felt kind of awkward too. I mean, he was definitely surprised that I had made it till here, and I bet he wondered what to do with me. This thought gave me quite a bit of confidence.
“Ryan, you are pretty much trapped, right?” Lucifer asked me.
I didn’t reply.
“Both of us know that you have no choice at this point, so let’s just get this done the easy way.”
I knew that I didn’t have that many choices, so I did the first thing that came to mind. I just ran straight up to Lucifer, my sword in front of me. Lucifer simply blocked me with his hand.
‘Bad idea,’ I thought.
“Ryan, I asked if we could do this the easy way. Why make things so complicated?”
Suddenly, I felt a big hit to my stomach. It was Loy. I frowned at him, and returned an evil smile. I slashed back at him with my sword, but the hit in the stomach really hurt. Luckily, he hadn’t done it with his sword. I got into a battle with Loy, and he wasn’t an easy fight. He blocked almost every hit I gave him. I started to win with quick slashes, but it was still a tough fight. But Loy’s attention went to Lucifer when Lucifer yelled out loud. I got the chance to bring Loy to the ground. Then I realized that Loy was fighting for Lucifer. Lucifer couldn’t fight because he was busy getting Ovilock’s memory right there. Loy was fighting for Lucifer, and Lucifer yelled because Loy was losing. I ran up to Lucifer and stabbed him in the leg. It healed immediately like the monster, two sections ago. Lucifer couldn’t fight with a sword, but he started using his long talons to get me. Even though they were really only fingernails, he used them like swords. He strategically pointed them at me, while I used my sword to fight.
We continued to fight, but in one go, Lucifer stuck his talons right through me. When I saw it, I expected to feel something really, really bad; but instead Lucifer shrieked.
“Ahhh!” he yelled. “You’re half human,” he growled, looking down at his long nails. “You’re blood.” His breathing had become uneasy.
As he started to stand up, I stabbed him in the chest, and he fell immediately. I walked over to Ovilock, who was just starting to regain consciousness.
“Ryan, be careful, Lucifer’s coming!” Ovilock said, in a scared tone.
“It’s ok,” I told him. “He’s dead,” I said, pointing to Lucifer’s fallen body.
Together, both of us made it out of the lair.

Chapter 6: Explanations

A few days later, after Ovilock was completely ok, I came to ask him about everything that had happened. Ovilock would know because he had this spell that informed him about all that happened. He would have an explanation for everything for sure.
“So… does Lucifer have your memory?”
Ovilock took a deep breath and replied, “To be honest with you, I’m not completely sure.” He paused. “But for now, we know we will be safe… for some time.” He looked away.
“And in one of the sections there was a plate of beef,” I told him, questioningly.
He smiled and said, “Ryan, the whole lair is build to confuse you. Something like that was bound to happen. I’m sure a few confusing things happened.”
I nodded and muttered, “Yeah.” I hesitated before I asked, “And Loy,” I paused,  because Ovilock started to look up at me. “I’m sorry I fought him… I just...” I looked down.
“Ryan, it’s not your fault. Loy betrayed us, and… it was your responsibility to fight him,” He replied slowly.
After a while, I asked Ovilock the thing I had been wondering the most.
“Why did Lucifer weaken when he stuck his talons into me?” I asked thoughtfully. “He said something about human blood.”
This made Ovilock wear a big grin. “You see, the last thing that Lucifer needed to extract from my memory was the fact that you were half human.” He paused. “Human blood is poisonous to demons like him.”
I paused to think about what Ovilock had just said. If it weren’t for me being half human, I’d have been dead. Me being half human saved me today, but what would save me tomorrow?

THE END
