Kavya's 5th Grade Goals

Typing Training SMART Goal

My typing speed should not hinder the writing process.

S	Specific	I want to type at 45 wpm by October 1 with correct finger placement and without looking at my fingers so my typing speed does not hinder the writing process.
M	Measurable	Four nights a week I will practice TypingTraining for 10 minutes. I will take a 3 minute typing test at the end of each week to monitor my progress.
A	Attainable	I will blog about my progress and comment on how my attitudes and skills are changing as I work closer to my goal.
R	Realistic	My goal is realistic. By the end of Grade 5 I would like to be typing at 35 wpm with correct finger placement.
T	Timely	My goal will be achieved by October 1, 2013.

My First Four Weeks of 5th Grade

My first four weeks of fifth grade have gone really well. I really like how all the fifth graders get to do lots of things other grades don't. These include going to a water park twice a year, getting our very own MacBook Pros, being the oldest in Elementary, we get to go to Subway in the High School, and getting to do extra things like Gecko Press, Student Council, and Peer Supporter.

Another thing I have really enjoyed in 5th grade is that I have had some really fun times with friends. For example, I joke around with them a lot at lunch, and have fun with them in the water park.

One thing I want to work on is writing because I hear we get to write tons of cool genres like fantasy. I also want to improve on my writing skills in these genres. I think it will be interesting to come up with story lines. I don't write fiction that much, so this will be something different, too.

Searching With Keywords

• It's important to use only the most important words when searching about certain topics because the internet is full of tons of information, that may not be what you're looking for.
• Try to be specific in your searches because the search engine will give you specifically what you are looking for.
• Don't use to many unhelpful or connecting words, but make sure you have enough words to be specific.

Respect

• Don't look at anyone else's password 
• Don't ask anyone what their password is
• If there is something you wouldn't say in public because it's rude, don't say it online because anyone can see it and lots of feelings could get hurt.
• Even if someone bullies you online, you shouldn't do the same back, but you should tell a trusted friend or adult.

Responsibility

• Don't tell online friends the following
• full name
• age 
• phone number
• address
• password
• where you are going  
• People can see your personal information, so even if you delete it, don't post anything you wouldn't want a parent or even a stranger to see.
• Never post anything that has a friend's name, your name, your age or any other personal information.
• Never post your plans as well as your personal information.
• It is ok to post an opinion, but never post exact information, like the exact day you were born. The most you should post is the month you were born in.
• Ask your parents/guardian(s) before clicking on a random pop-up ad or link. Anything could be on that link and in can be unsafe. 
• Tell an adult if you are being cyber bullied because they can help you get out of a fight or help you get rid of an incorrect website that can make people feel bad.
• If you are being cyber bullied, it's best to ignore the cyber bully for some time and tell your parents or gaurdian(s)

• Always ask people before posting a video or image of them online.
• Even though you have to think about what you post online, always be polite in any post and don't say anything mean about a friend or any other aquantince.
• Bystanders are people who witness cyber bullying, and upstanders are people who help people who are being cyber bullied. Always try your best to be an upstander.

• Don't tell online friends your personal information, but don't lie about it
